Giant Church Incorporated
Giant Church Incorporated is a toxic, destructive system that glorifies power and image. It's not about the size of the church, or necessarily a church at all. It's the way a church, college, Christian organization, or political system operates. The institution is valued over the people in it. I was part of Giant Church Inc and want to tell my story.
Why tell the story? If Giant Church Inc is making a positive difference in their city, if hundreds are baptized each year, if the seats are filled and the people are singing worship songs and listening to teaching they understand, then why does it matter?
Because thousands of people attend Giant Church Inc. The way they think about God, Jesus, others, the Bible, and their worldview is shaped by it. If Giant Church is not telling the truth about who God is, who Jesus is……if they aren’t preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, then thousands of people live from lies instead of the truth.
Hope Is Greater Than Giant Church Inc
I’m right in the middle of a busy season in school and I absolutely love it. The amount of reading and writing assigned each week leaves little time for anything else, but I’m discovering a good rhythm that allows me to spend time with family and friends and complete my assignments without too much stress….
Running Down a Giant Church Inc Dream
Jesus commissioned the disciples to go and make disciples. The church should be one of the main places where we are discipled – where we go and see Christlikeness and see a desire for it, where we go to learn how to follow Jesus and are transformed from the inside out. Not behavior modification or…
The Masquerade of Giant Church Inc
The lights faded to black. The place was dark except for the mini floor lights lining the aisles. Ashley, Kim, and Anna stood in front of their seats and stared at the stage. The crowd was quiet for the most part. Anna looked over at the other two, “Where’s the band?” Finally, the spotlights hit…
Another Giant Church Inc Short Story
This is the last of a trio of short stories I wrote about Giant Church Inc. Though these stories are fictional, there are thousands of true stories like them. If you’ve experienced anything like what I’ve written about in my Giant Church Inc series, I’d love to hear from you. If you haven’t, praise God….
Giant Church Inc Is Still Giant Church Inc
One of the most popular podcasts of 2021 was The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill. For those of us who’ve been talking about spiritual abuse for several years, the podcast brought a kind of relief initially. “Finally,” I thought, “now people will understand the harm toxic church cultures cause.” I felt a similar relief…
Sex, Lies, and Giant Church Inc
In his book, I Told Me So, Gregg A. Ten Elshof writes, “We manage our attention in order not to see things. In our avoidance of the truth, we procrastinate, adjust our sentiments, rationalize, and switch perspectives. And when none of that works, we solicit the help of our fellow self-deceivers.” I’m thankful for those…
Raise Your Gaze Giant Church Inc
Last month, Giant Church Inc proved what the voices of those who speak out against it already know. The people who we served with for years, who claimed we were their family of choice, who we gave our time and care to, who counseled or walked us through painful and private events, proved once again…
It’s Not Over, Giant Church Inc
I wish I could say it was over. Unfortunately, my Giant Church Inc story is more common than we will ever know. Unless we’ve willfully refused to learn about what’s going on in the church, we’re all painfully aware. The stories of abuse, greed, and scandal continue to make headlines, and those are only the…
The Regime of Giant Church Inc
I’m no longer part of the Giant Church Inc world but we still hear stories of what’s happening there. Not much has changed. They keep a tighter grip on their inner circle and have let a few more into the outer inner circle. The outer inner circle is not the real inner circle but those…
Step Into the Light, Giant Church Inc
Great is the art of the beginning, but greater is the art of ending. —Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Three years ago, I began telling my story of leaving Giant Church Incorporated. I could never have guessed what would come of that. I had the privilege of working with amazing people and organizations over the last few…
